| Corrupt traffic police are amoung the hazards, given the frequent accidents, of driving in Russia…. but I was too chicken to test this out myself. . When I was stopped by the traffic police, I was informed of my offense and issued a ticket for which I paid the officer on the spot and was given a receipt for it. Theoretically, they are known to take "payments" without receipts. |

Moscow - The capital of Russia is a massive sprawling city. Despite a large amount of boring grey buildings, Moscow has some hidden gems. It is a city of great history with cultural attractions and some magnificent architecture. Remaining from the communist era, the Kremlin and Red Square are incredible centre pieces.
St Petersburg - This incredible city is the most western in style and is situated quite close to the border with Finland. Sumptuous architecture and cultural delights including excellent museums are St. Petersburg's most endearing features.
Novgorod - One of the oldest cities in Russia, Novgorod is a great place to visit. The Kremlin in Novgorod is sensational and the city also boasts some marvellous cathedrals and churches, particularly the Cathedral of St. Sofia.
Sochi - One of the best of the Black Sea resorts. With warm weather and the perfect setting of the Caucasus Mountains, Sochi is very enjoyable with great stately homes and gardens. |
